I tried that a couple weeks ago on Christmas eve. Did not work. We ate in an Indian Casino (most restaurants are closed that night)Wait until 7 pm and it should be back close to normal. It's not that complicated. Until a storm, then advanced maneuvres may be required.

Tunnel approach is still slow at 7:40 P.M. this Sunday evening. Two hours Copper to DIA still isn't too bad, and it will keep getting better.

Thus my suggestion to never drive i70 on Fri-Sun in the summer.Well, I have left Denver on Saturday afternoon (4-5pm) on Saturday in the summer and have had horrible drives. I have left Breck early on Sunday mornings with similar results. Ski traffic much more predictable.
