My daughter is first year U14. Her coaches have been telling her to turn early and that her line is too high. She understands the concept, but she’s having difficulty in making this change. Any tips on how to teach a 13yr old to do this?

There is a difference between timing of a turn and line.
Turn should not happen until athlete hits the rise line, where it happens (higher or lower/deeper) will be highly dependent on athlete ability and how they want to get to the next gate.

Note turning is also different than being flipped on edge as well.

Coaches would be best to help no? They should be using brushes or dye to assist with visual cues for the athletes.

A high line wouldn't bother me too much - most go too straight at the gates and exit too far below / late. I don't see what turning early has to do with this? Is she hanging on to the old turn too much?

Agree with @hbear - coaches should be training turn shape with external cues: dye, brushes, stubbies etc.

@HTinPA has your daughter seen a bunch of video of herself skiing with her coaches pointing out what they want her to change? Everyone learns differently but our u14s spend a lot of time watching their videos , slowing them down, having the coaches point out what they want changed ... If your program doesn’t do that you could video her....

Read @hbear 's response again. Then get the coaches to clarify. Are we talking early/late (lateral relative to rise line) or high/low (closer to old gate or new gate)? Where is her exit angle compared with where it should be? Are we just talking about hanging on the old turn too long or flipping to the new edges and not holding the transition long enough?

yup. Or do you have 2 different coaches giving conflicting advice ?...... or perhaps not understanding the difference.? But as @ razie said. Easy to work on bringing the line down. Usually we face the opposite issue..... which is a bigger challenge!
