someone like @markojp or @Philpug could clarify, but I recall hearing that the first change after the re-introduction of the M88 was '17-18 version; and then it changed subtly again in '18-19 (current year). As for the what and how much, I do not know that definitively. No idea what happens for next year ('19-20) or if it stays in the line. I own the 16-17, that is the only one I can speak to. I think it is awesome.

This is exactly what I want to know! I have skied the original M88 and really liked it. I have skied the 2019 and don't like it. There is one pair of 2017 M88 and two pairs of M88 available locally. If the 2017 or 2018 skis are exactly the same as the original M88 (2015 or 2016), I would buy.

Looks like it's both Alpine and Princeton Sports. Hopefully that will result in more reps showing up? We'll see.

I see people posting 2017, but they are really the 2018-2019 model year.

Head Monster 88
Dimensions: 133-88-114
Radius: 17.4m@177cm
Sizes: 163, 170, 177, 184
Size tested: 177
Design: New Construction

Philpug: The Monster 88 has become my reference ski in the 88-90mm category. What does that mean? That it's the best ski or the one that all others are compared against? Not really; it is the ski that I test the testing environment with. So, my first run of the day is on the Monster 88 because for me, it is one of the most predictable skis not only in the class but on the market.

Predictability. Is there really anything more you can ask from a ski? No one likes unnecessary surprises. We don’t like driving down the road and having a wheel fly off of a car and be told, “Surprise, I loosened your lug nuts." No, I want a ski that when I take it out I know exactly what it will do. Occasionally I give one of our members a hard time because he always recommends the Monster 88, no matter what. Most of the time he is correct, and that is for the reason I stated: it is just a damn good ski that is usually a safe bet.

For 2019 we see a change in the Monster: it has a slightly softer and balanced flex and a new tip shape. On the snow, its feel is just what you would expect: predictable.
  • Who is it for? Those who appreciate refinement.
  • Who is it not for? Where in the past you needed your A game, a good solid B+ game will suffice here.
  • Insider tip: Like the Monster 83, as good as the last generation was, this one is worth the price difference.
This year's Monster is when we saw a signifiant change.

If you preferred the previous one, by all means get it.

I have a pair of the 2016 Monster 88's in the 177 length with Marker Griffon bindings collecting dust in my basement if anyone is interested. I was going to put them up for sale but just haven't got around to it. They have approx.15 - 20 days on them. Bases and edges are excellent, no damage of any kind, condition of top skins are typical for what you would expect. Skis have a fresh tune on them. Had them tuned for the first time a while ago, have not used them since. Would be willing to ship them to anyone on the site here so you can check them out before making an offer. Am not interested in having them shipped back to me, so no reasonable offer would be refused. Let me know if anyone's interested before they end up on Craig's List.
Thanks

The current monster 88 isn't quite as stiff as the 16-17. It has a slightly different feel, maybe closer in flex to a rev 85 pro. FWIW, I loved the rev 85 pro, the 16-17 monster, and the current 18-19 as well. They're back for 19-20 as well with only NGT.

Do you know if the flex is different between 15-16 and 16-17?

Also, what's NGT?

Looks like the M88's remain albeit unchanged for 2020! Same lineup 83ti, 88ti, 83x
What’s the 83x vs 83ti? I have the ‘16 177 M83 and am considering either 177 or 184 M83 or M88. Keeping the current just thinking of getting another. Not sure what year. I really like how the ‘16 performs in Pocono conditions.

Same shapes and lengths available, minus the two sheets of metal in 83X. Supposedly a fraction softer and lighter than the 83ti. Also, I am not sure that either of the 83's are available in the 184cm as the 88 is.
