The Elan 86 is likely to be more your general SUV. Take it anywhere, somewhat boring on roads (on piste), more fun off road (but not quite Land Rover level). Not familiar with this ski, but being described as playful in the listing is not normally a sign of a high performance carver.

For something more like a Subaru Outback where you sacrifice some back country capability for better on road performance, I'd suggest the
Atomic Vantage x83 cti, previous years models come in at $400 new:

On the other hand if you are more of a Subaru WRX kind of guy, something like this is more fun:

Like the WRX, could try it off road, but risk getting stuck in mud or scraping your undercarriage.

Nice analogy. the atomic is rated for advanced/expert. Is it good for someone like me in 2nd season?

You should not have a problem. Might take a little getting used to at first seeing they are bigger than what you had before. Just out of interest what size did you get (no wrong answer unless you went for the 161)?

BTW, sometimes skis with system bindings come with notes saying that the bindings need to be mounted. The bindings are already mounted, the toe and heel pieces just slide onto the rail. Don't mistakenly pay a store $70 to "mount" them.

I got the 168cm.
