Northern Rockies/Alberta Fires Near Banff

It has been a very dry summer here in Western Canada, and the fire situation is pretty serious. The fires in the interior of British Columbia have displaced a lot of people. The fires closer to Calgary have mostly been fairly deep in the wilderness, away from populated areas.

Skiers might be interested to know that one of the bigger fires is approaching Sunshine Village.

The fire seems to be sticking to the other side of the divide, but if you have plans to ski sunshine in the near future, it might be worth watching the news.

Smoke is nasty in Canmore right now, Banff was not much better today. Smoke almost totally obscuring the mtns.

In case anyone is still following, the Sunshine Lodge is reopening tomorrow, so the east side of the Divide seems to be ok:

but Highway 93 has still been closed on and off, and Kootenay Park Lodge is still under threat. This is a huge chunk of Kootenay NP going up in smoke:
