I have a couple of good (funny drinking stories re skiing and winter), however since someone brought up Pot and the lift I do have some concerns of second hand pot smoke. I don’t care whether or not you indulge that is your choice, however in Canada you can get charged if you exceed a certain limit driving and they’ve already stated second hand pot smoke can get you over the limit.

The concern is I can’t stop breathing, so unintentional exposure because you indulge in public is an issue. In alcohol I must indulge (my problem), in regular smoke I might get cancer, but no legal problems, but in Pot you (the pot smoker) directly causes the problem of others.

Again, I don’t care if you do or don’t (even before legalization), but please respect my choice not to, by ensuring I can breath (which is a requirement of life) without being exposed (put at risk) by your choice.

Lift pot smoking is not cool.
You would have to be in the chair lift for hours with someone who smokes continuously to get enough thc in you to cause a problem.

Sorry, please don’t make that choice for me (or others) by your (not implying you directly, just the nonspecific “you”) actions.

All I ask is we all respect each other’s choices, by not limiting the others unfairly. Breathing is not a choice but a requirement for all, partaking in pot is a choice.

Not saying you can’t just be respectful of those that don’t want too.

I enjoy a cold one or two at the end of the day. I don't drink while skiing. I have seen too many people get injured while drinking and skiing.

If you were sitting in the same car with them and the windows were rolled up, or in a Gondola, you would get hot-boxed. If you were in open air on a chair lift, I don't think you would have anything to worry about vis-a-vis getting high. It's just anti-pot propaganda.

You're not going to get high from smelling pot from the chair ahead. If a few strong whiffs of pot had a measurable effect on sobriety, I would be high every day at work in downtown Denver.

But honestly who smokes weed on a chair lift. That is soooo 2000s. You either vape or edible. No smoke. No discernable-pot scent. No fiddling with a lighter on a windy chairlift. If you must smoke grass, you find a spot far off in the trees where children and families don't have to smell it.

Interestingly -- second hand alcohol is also a thing. My better half writes software to help determine false positives in alcohol testing for an alcohol monitoring company. Many people who work near alcohol (bartenders, scientists, etc) or spend a lot of time in a bar can show up as a false positive on certain types of tests.

For those inclined to study the subject "drinking and skiing", I suggest opening day at A Basin, starting in the parking lot in the am.
By 1 pm, you will have enough observations for a peer reviewed study (just be careful on the slope not to get run over).

Al addressed this on the A-basin blog 5 years ago.
*if you go to that link, read the comments. ;)

Smoking cigarettes in a public place is illegal almost everywhere except casinos. Smoking weed is under that same category so yes, its not cool for someone to smoke on a chair with you without asking if you're okay with.

A few years ago ( the year before they expanded the 6th Alley Bar) we witnessed some early 20somethings come into the A-Frame drunk while we were booting up. They were ordering bloody marys from the coffee/cocktail corner and making a bit of a scene. They were escorted out and told not to ski until they were sober.
Kudos to A-Basin for doing that.

Note you can still get 3.2 Coors Light and other flavors at most grocery and convenience stores in Colorado, at least for a while. I'm not sure how the new law changing this will be rolling out in practice.

3.2 beer is my secret survival tip for drinking at altitude. I might be the only one that seeks it out and I'll miss it if it goes away completely.
3.2 is alive & well in Utah.

Right, It's common courtesy. If I drink on the lift it goes to my stomach. If I smoke (anything) it goes to my lungs, and also to your air. It's like people listening to loud music. It's simply rude. And, regardless, I would not pull a flask if I am riding the lift with two little ones from the ski school. I talk unicorns with them. There is a place for everything. Lest we forget that people around the smoker may have asthma.

Beer, it's not just for breakfast anymore.

I like beer,
It makes me a jolly good fellow.

I like beer,
it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow.

Whiskey's to rough, Champagne costs to much, and vodka puts my mouth in gear.
This little refrain will help me explain, as a matter of fact,

I like beer

Example:
There is an auto parts store on the strip where the ski/bike shop is where I work part time. The guys in the auto parts store step outside to take a smoke break, just under the awning that covers the store fronts. Because of where the wind blows, their smoke gets blown into our store if we have our doors open. It just stinks and they don't seem to understand why we have asked them to step out back instead of out front.
Pot is no different when smoked. Impairment aside(which is the topic of this thread) smoke stinks and its only polite to ask before lighting up.

Yesssss! Another one! My daughter thinks I'm crazy when I visit her in UT b/c I LOVE 3.2 beer. Not really the taste (there's really no 3.2 match for a great microbrew), but b/c lightweights like me can drink 2 -- or sometimes, when I'm living dangerously -- even 3 in a night.

It’s not the risk of buzz, it’s not wanting to breathe or even smell the smoke, of any variety.

Steve Martin once commented, when someone asked him if he minded if they smoke, “not at all, do you mind if I fart?”

Rode lift with patrol guy one day and he told me a story about a drunk dude puking from the chairlift and he puked himself off of the chair he was heaving so hard. They found him covered in blood and puke below a lift tower. I enjoy two beers while skiing, that is it.

Agreed, given a choice of smelling/breathing it or not, I choose not.

Mind if I burn this incense on the chair? Or spray this perfume in your face? Some people are much more sensitive to smoke, odor, and dust than others.
