Most of the time, I ski with several hundred or thousand fellow skiers. Fewer in the backcountry. But I promised the missus that I wouldn't ski the backcountry alone anymore after breaking (fortunately only) a rib, alone, a 5 mile, 5000 vertical foot hike from the car last spring. I was suitably chastened because we had to skip a planned backpacking trip because of it. I now concede that it's not wise.

I used to ski with my kids all the time. Then they started moving out, going to college, etc. Then I skied alone except when they came home for holidays. The past couple of seasons I had my oldest granddaughter alone about half the time. Family finances might not allow her to ski much this season, if at all, so I'm probably going to be solo most or all the time this year.
