    Wow.... that cable isn't looking good. The article states that they've created a restricted zone to keep people out from underneath the whole length of the cable in case it falls.

    yeah apparently no other lifts go as high in that area and it's a favorite for locals, going to be out of commission for a while.

    It mentions that they were working on the roof, and the workers initially tried to put it out before evacuating... but doesn't say what the actual cause was, and if it was part of the work going on. Other sites don't seem to be saying anything different, so maybe the cause hasn't been determined or released yet.

    Not to mention the High Noon at Turoa, Mt Ruapehu earlier this season (avalanche not fire)

    Article mentions tower replacement but it ended up needing a new haul rope so out for the season.

    A patrol-triggered avalanche above the ski area was magnitudes bigger than expected, surged over the terminus building and into the top tower, snapping it.
