I'm glad the race didn't fall into the hands of WTC/Ironman. They bought and screwed up the Boulder Peak Triathlon, an iconic local race, a few years ago:

Fortunately, it's back in the hands of a local owner and regaining its mojo.

I have huge respect and appreciation for the mostly under-compensated efforts to put on races. I'd much rather my registration fees go to a local owner than a big corporation.

I am surprised WTC went after the multi-day stage Breck Epic rather than the Breck 100 which is more like the Leadville 100 (but more difficult). No way the Breck trails can handle a race the size of Leadville. That many riders would be bad for the trails and the race, so glad neither are heading there, at least for a while.

Great story in the Summit Daily yesterday about the Breck Epic:
https://www.summitdaily.com/news/breck-epic-mountain-bike-race-sets-sights-on-next-level-for-2019/

See the comment posted below the story by the race founder. It really makes me want to do the race. Not physically possible at the moment and getting older every day. :(

But, there is a 3-day "Epicurious" abbreviated version. Maybe someday something to shoot for.

Here's a nice race report for the 3-day Epicurious from the back of the pack:
http://kimberlyober.blogspot.com/2018/08/epicurious-breck-epic-3-day-stage-race.html

There are some pretty slow times in the results, and I don't see any mention of cut off times. :thumb: Hey, maybe there's a chance! Says the guy who finished 13:01 and didn't get the finisher medal in an MTB race that had a 13 hour cut off. :D

The Breck Epic produced some amazing videos from last years race, one for each stage. See them on their channel:
https://www.youtube.com/user/BreckEpic/videos

I watched them all last night. Very inspiring. My favorite was Wheeler - Stage 5 with awesome scenery on the 10-mile range between Breck and Copper:

That trail up high is nuts. Great hike. Miserable bike ride. I've never ridden it and have no desire. Epicurious, if ever, for me. Huge props to the finishers. Speaking of DNF's, there are 90 for that stage last year and the weather was perfect.
