the biggest factor in determining ease of turn initiation is the position of the animate object connected to the skis through the bindings........

If you pivot your turns, the shorter the better.

Maybe approach skis like the Hagans or Scouts, especially if you are skinning up?

Got a 2009 set of Hagan Offlimits very cheaply from a UK skier - and will experiment with those as an approach ski! Got lots of information also its characteristics in the BC; through inputs from the ski board community. Looked at the Scouts too, but very very hard to find any available online for sale. Now looking for something more like a one-ski quiver on the frontside and some slack country work

For easier turn initiation when pivoting: more rocker, wider, shorter, less aggressive tune (more base bevel, less side bevel) in that order.
For easier turn initiation when tipping: softer longitudinal flex, shorter side cut radius, more torsional stiffness, more aggressive tune (less base bevel, more side bevel) in that order. Also mount more forward, not sure exactly where that fits in, as it's also a question of how much, probably right after shorter side cut radius.
Edit to say tune is more of a factor on hard snow, less of a factor in soft snow.
