Good one.

Slight thread drift: You know who I thing does a great job on the sound tracks in her movies? Sofia Coppola. Here are a couple scenes from her movies with songs I really liked:
Lost In Translation, Sometimes, My Bloody Valentine

Marie Antoinette, I Want Candy, Bow Wow Wow

Marie Antoinette, Ceremony, New Order

I must be the only old fart here.

The Graduate. Anyone heard of Paul and Art?

Midnight Cowboy - Harry Nilsson singing "Everybody's Taklin' at Me" still touches my soul.

Remember both of them well.

Others:
Deliverance - Dueling Banjos
Morning of the Earth - entire soundtrack
Miami Vice - not a film, but lead the way with music as a key part of the story
Back to the Future - Huey Lewis and the News
Easy Rider - already mentioned
Blues Brothers
American Graffiti

I wore the American Graffiti soundtrack out in High school. Still love it to this day.

Just watched the Blues Brothers again a couple of nights ago. Great music. Was amazed at what they could get away with in the late 70's that you couldn't do today.

Apocalypse Now, introduced 16 year olds to Wagner
Air America, CCR, Any questions?
LOTR
Braveheart, being of Scottish ancestry, it sometimes makes me want to get nekkid, paint myself blue, and hit someone in the skull with a BFH. My daughter says I scare her friends sometimes.
Guardians, because there hasnt been any good music since the 70's.

As a aside, just before Guardians came out I was riding the scooter on a hot day and pulled up behind a Mercury Cougar at a light. The "C" and the "r" were broken off. I had a mind worm for 2 freaking days.

A classic thread.......and I'm sticking with the classics here.

Almost Famous......really solid sound track.
Caddy shack.......classic.
Adding to the list of Tarantino films....Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Stand by me.
Any film by Greg Stump: Blizzard of Ahhhh's , License, P-tex, Groove....all killer and leading sound tracks.

American Pie has aged well with me. Listened to some of it on the way back from skiing Sunday.

I don't think anyone has mentioned James Horner's scores. Star Trek 2 and 3 and Aliens among many others.

I added American Pie because it's still in my playlist after 20 years. Even 15 years ago I wouldn't have mentioned it. Is it safe to say that to be "best" or even "excellent" it should stand a test of time, say 10 years?

HOT DOG - the movie
Raiders of the Lost Ark
I've been on a Sean Connery kick lately and saw Indiana jones last crusade last night. The music in that film is pretty iconic at this point and there were four in the franchise so lots of opportunities to hear variations of common themes.
Lawrence of Arabia.
Lawrence is my favorite film of them all. Wonderful music.

What's the difference between a soundtrack and a score?

I like the music from Bernard Herrmann including many of his Hitchcock films such as Vertigo.
