I do not want a CX-looking tire like the Kenda K161 - are the Kenda K35/K40 and Panaracer Pasela my best choices? Is there a top quality supple option?

27"..wow..there was a time when we sold dump-trucks full of 27" tires..now..I don't even know if they make 27" rims anymore..tough to find I bet.

You can still buy decent rims in 27 -- I think Sun makes one of their classic double-wall box sections in it.

IMHO -- Paselas are the best bet. I've got them on half a dozen bike. Hard to beat from a ride quality to price ratio. The TourGuard versions give a little extra durability at the expense of ride suppleness. I find the regular ones fine even for commuting and touring.

I've still got a couple 630 ISO (27 inch) wheeled bikes. Yes, the Panaracer Pasela is a very good tire. Better than any other that I have found out there! As seen below ...
