It is axiomtic that one cannot tune skis without beer.
My question, and proposed subject of serious discussion, is the appropriate ratio of beers to pairs of skis tuned.
I just tuned one pair and waxed, scraped, and brushed two more, yet I only consumed one "Fat Tire" and one "Snow Day."
My gut tells me that I should have one more beer, if I am going to lay a finger on one more pair.
Mind you, I am an amateur and the worlds slowest ski tech, which should be a consideration.
Aren't there published rules of thumb on this sort of thing?

I'm a slow drinker - one cider per evening of waxing. Two if I'm feeling particularly daring. I'm a klutz even when sober, so I have to limit, even if it does result in an inferior final product =/

I feel compelled to have 1 beer air of skis. Unless I am doing bourbon!

Heaven forbid! I am suggesting the more puritanical one beer per pair of skis standard.
But there could be exceptions!
Core shots = extra beer

Today is the third Thursday in November. Yes, that's right, it's:

Beaujolais Nouveau Day!

Lessee, 12 pair to do on Saturday, no core shots, lots of sidewall prep, should be at least 4 bottles.

Yeh,something like
1 x Maxel GS Storm
2 x Blizzard Magnum 8.0
2 x Dobermann GSR
1 x Dynamic i.Perform 1.2
1 x Palmer PO2 (these also need a binding change)
1 x Supershapes
1 x Ramp Kumoniwannaskiyas
1 x Elan Bliss
1x Zag H112
1 x Zag Purist

...and that's leaving most of the fat skis and all of the XC/tele gear undone.

Now wait a minute, shouldn't the beer ratio be different for professionals?

Hmm. I usually save it for after. Something about heat, sharp edges and power tools doesn't scream "alcohol" to me. And that goes double for base repairs.

At 1 drink per pair of skis, nobody should ski anything after the Dobies in that list!

At home I drink as necessary, no ratio observation applied. At work, I don't have a beer until all the power equipment is off and put to bed. Then I have a drink of beer every time I change processes. Gummi edges, drink. Wax, drink. Scrape, drink. Brush, drink. Next pair, drink. Repeat until no next pair. It ends up to be about a beer per three pair.

I am a strict 1:1 pair of skis to beer ratio with a 5 pair limit.

However if I'm working on 3 or more pairs I do all edge and base work first, then all the wax work. Much more confident in drunk scraping and brushing than drunk edging.

I am learning how to tune my own skis thanks to the two branches of Geib Alpine Sports (I hope to have my own branch someday). This is the most important part of the process yet!

So what happens when you want to do this in the morning? I went to adjust some bindings just now, and realized, er, remembered the keg is empty.

Well, that's just unacceptable. Guinness is a great morning beer.
