OK, so I'm way behind on posting, I did a 2 night trip into the SoCal backcountry back on April 17th. We have had a lot of snow since the c-19 closures, the high peaks are still holding copious amounts and it was still winter conditions during our visit.
Trailhead recommendation.
Rest stop.
Camp, with marine layer pushing in.
Going up.
True summit of Mt. San Gorgonio. All water drains into the Great Basin on that side of the ridge, to the Pacific on this side. My partner and I had a discussion on the summit ridge and decided that conditions were solid and we would split up and descend different lines. He went down the normal route on the face, I went down the East Bowl, a line I have wanted for years.
Summit pano, Mt. San Jacinto across Banning Pass.
Great snow off the top, some sastrugi and just a slight crust in spots, but I brought the right skis.
East Bowl gnar.
Tracks.
San G from Snow Summit. I did the high left line, partially obscured by the ridge. It felt great to to finally tick this one off the list.
