This discussion is so quiet...where is everyone? Do I need to go to another forum...

I’ve been reluctant to go skinning and tax the stretched infrastructure. But have been reading avy report closely and started accepting invitation out of a friend’s back deck/yard.

The snow was amazing today despite a few tracks where we were. Made me smile and laugh.

I think many are under stay in place orders. Others probably need to travel in order to get into the backcountry.
I have been out most everyday this week albeit in an extremely conservative fashion but I am reluctant to post about it.
I also haven’t driven more than 10 miles to get to it.

Hear, hear! I drive no more than 5-7.5 miles to get to trailheads. Hard for me to judge if we would be promoting irresponsible behavior or just merely sharing the beauty and passion of being outside.

I'm seeing some pretty polarized opinions on BC right now around the web. I'm inclined to say be a bit more conservative and keep your distance, but I can't really see where the S&R infrastructure is taxed right now. I don't want to start a flamewar but I'm curious what others here think and how it's being discussed in your community.

Here are some photos from recent outings.

I had floated plans on this board to drive 150 miles to go bc skiing fresh powder this week with solid confidence I could do so safely. Today I could be skiing over a foot of light cold snow.

However over the last couple weeks, the tragic media news and participation on a few web boards has been gnawing away at any enthusiasm. Much sadness over the state of human beings on our world. We had the first shelter in place order in the country and our county has most cases in California, while legally from the actual text of the order, I could drive up.

Also have had more time to feel dread of contacting viral pneumonia that I greatly dread as I dearly love being alive with such a superb body for an old guy. And my residence is a comfortable, safe, fort, at least in the near term I don't have worries in. Today will be cancelling my Denver airfare to ski Winter Park that is now just a week away.

Today will be #22 for me... in March. I've been hammering the steel tree bc, I live at the base of a resort, 150 meters from the snow, I can even skin from the house with enough fresh. All turns hard earned, zero driving. These are from Tuesday.

You are lucky. Stuck on the east coast...working and helping home-school my kids...that's where I am. Keep posting so some of us can live vicariously.

I've been posting my last week of trips over in 2019-2020 Colorado Weather and Stoke (and beer)

I walk out my back door to get to the terrain I'm skiing. Yesterday I saw 3 people other than me and my roommate. One trail runner (which speaks to the snow conditions; firm) and two skiers. 7 - 3 days ago, there was nice fresh snow (1 - 2") most days over a smooth firm surface. Lately the fresh has stopped and the sun is necessary to create a soft surface, but we are due for some more fresh over the next few days.

This pair of crows (or ravens) were playing with a piece of rubbish and having friendly dog-fights. There are two other pairs in the background.

Today was the day that Snowbasin reopened for uphill travel. I was going to avoid it fearing the worst but decided if I got going early enough and went right when everyone else went left it would be OK. We had the biggest Storm of the season a few days ago leaving almost 3 feet on the mountain. Since I was solo this morning my main concern was staying out of avalanche terrain which I was able to do & was proud of my self discipline ogwink.

I parked along the road to avoid the possibility of crowds in the parking lots and took a route to the side of the mountain that I felt would have the least people along with lower avalanche danger.

approaching the top of the skin track which l think was put in yesterday or at dawn this morning.

I was able to get two laps before anyone showed up but as soon as I started back up for a third about 15 people dropped in to the zone.

so I skinned up over the ridge

& down my old slalom training hill & down to the car. (Hey, someone forgot to bring in the gates & B-net)

I drove down to the main lodge and car park to check things out once I was done. There were lots of cars along the road and quite a few in the parking lot. I would guess at least a couple of hundred people got out there and did something today. Most of the main runs had quite a few tracks in them but not completely skied out at noonish.

My son has been making the 15 minute drive to skin in LCC quite a bit over the last two weeks, but does not share pictures ogsmile
He said today was good and not too crowded.
I haven't gotten into skinning, but enjoying this time to do non-ski stuff with my wife including several snowshoe outings.

I understand why some resorts are blocking uphill right now, but I don't necessarily agree with their decision, and when they're on national forest land, I don't think if they're not operating they should have any say.
