I used to have a pair of the magnesium shelled originals.
They didn't fit well and you sure couldn't punch them but I loved the way they skied.
The flex was controlled by a spring and you could adjust the preload on the spring.
They would go from soft to stiff with the turn of a screw.
The flex didn't vary with temperature like plastic shells.
Dale was on to a good thing, too bad I still cannot buy boots where the flex doesn't change with temperature.

Hey, strap those things into a pair of 210 Kneissel Red Stars with a pair of Geze toes and Marker turntables with longthongs and you will find out something about skiing.
All those folks that don't know "down, up, down" and a lot of rotary action would be lost.

Well I still rather have just about any plastic boot from the late 70's. I don't know about the Hanson though.

Weren't those things cold?

They were awful. Awful cold. The rubber/neoprene/whatever was like a frozen block of tire. And heavy. Really, really heavy.

A few DaleBoots I found. What I understand is that the company will still give you new buckles and liners for your old Daleboots.

Here are some 80’s DaleBoots. I loved the VT’s for moguls -nice progressive flex and lateral stiffness.
