Shout out to those that sacrificed and those who died to make it happen.

One of my uncles who flew over 100 bombing missions over Europe with the RCAF while my dad and another uncle were off in the Pacific. Bad picture of a great guy who was an enthusiastic skier:

My Dad, Johnson AFB, Japan. He was a B-29 bombardier flying off Saipan during WWII. He often told the story of sitting on downed palm logs watching a movie; they would look up the hill behind them and see the Japanese sitting there watching too.
By the time of this picture he was flying F-94's fighting in Korea. He was there during Nam too. retiring in 69.
He taught me to ski (he probably regretted that one).

Nice sentiments Talisman!

My older brother recently sent me some correspondence that included a neat old photo from WWII of my mom and dad. My dad's in uniform and getting ready to ship out to Normandy to participate in D-Day. I'll try to get this photo in a format that I can post here.

BTW, my brother's correspondence (with the early photo of our parents) was a fascinating account he researched and wrote about the impact of the flu of 1918 on my mom's family. It appears that she lost one or more older siblings and possibly two grandparents to that epidemic.

PS: for BadBob, very cool post. My father was USN, retired 1968. He also received service awards for WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in 2013. And was a skier too!

I have a slew of older relatives who were in that war. My grandfather was on a Corvette in the Atlantic..I have a photo of a photo he took in port of a German U-boat that surrendered to them after VE day. I have a photo of his medals too..voluntary service award and I think an Atlantic Campaign medal or something. He died long ago unfortunately. My great-uncles all volunteered together..Navy, Merchant Marine and Air Force. I think 5 of them. None of them talked much about it..some were better than others I think.

Bless em all, bless em all, the long and the short and the tall...
