I have been watching consumer 360degree cameras slowly get better in resolution over the last few years. Unlike traditional flat video, these require much higher pixel count to look good. For example video from a "HD" 360 camera will look pretty grainy when viewed in a VR headset. This is because the pixels need to cover information from the entire 360 sphere around the camera and not just the section currently being viewed. The current generation of 360 cameras is now reaching resolution levels that look good in VR and GoPro just got into the game with their new GoPro Fusion ($699, 5.2K resolution)

Here is a 360 video of JT Holmes para-skiing next to Donner Lake on a beautiful powder day. If viewing on a phone/tablet/PC, you can move around too, but use the YouTube app on a PS4 and a PSVR headset - wow! Amazing.

With GoPro in the market now, looking forward to more such VR experiences.
