Feb 10th - Opportunity exists.....
It's time to finish off this Japan blog so I can focus on Uzbekistan! Images from the 10th of Feb, skiing a new resort with an amazing (and smelly!) fumerole. Unfortunately, this resort was very anti-tree skiing with signs everywhere saying do not enter. Boo! It's such a shame as this resort has some of the best looking trees I have seen and on a powder day mid-week, would be an absolute blast. Anyhoow, they do allow ski touring from there and there seems to be a lot of places you can go. We did a short tour just to go take a look and found some nice looking terrain. This place definitely has potential!
Whilst it wasn't an epic powder day, we still got to stretch the legs and I added another new ski area to my list. That makes it 104! Overall, we had a great time in Tohoku, despite the relative lack of snow, we still skied a lot of powder and got to explore new resorts and tick off new lines, so progress was made. Thanks to everyone involved for being a part of another successful guiding season in Japan. I look forward to returning in 2025. I'll add some video's later on, so this blog isn't finished yet (same for the Hokkaido blog), but now, it's onto Uzbekistan.....
Heading up the lifts - you can see the big open crater and fumerole
Looking down into the crater from above, the smell of sulfur was really strong!
Plenty of big peaks around this zone
They have a viewing platform in the summertime so you can look down into the crater
So photogenic @Drahtguy Kevin !
I'd tell you them name of the peak but then I'd have to kill you...... and we don't want that!
