Philpug: You know we have been in love with the S/Force Bold for the past year. As an 84mm Western frontside all-mountain ski, there are few things it can't do. But what if you don’t need a ski that wide, or what if your budget is a bit smaller? Well, Salomon does offer a slightly narrower, lower-priced version in the S/Force 11, which is 80 mm underfoot with a street price of up to $200 less than the flagship.

The S/Force 11 is everything we love about the Bold, more or less: more because with a narrower waist, you get more quickness edge to edge; less because it costs less, resulting in more value.

Insider tip: This is not a lightweight ski; use that to your advantage.​

Andy Mink: It wants you to go faster. It wants you to be engaged. That doesn't mean it is a hard ski to ski, just that you will enjoy it more if you work with it. It will turn at slower speeds but you have to cajole it a bit. It is beefy and damp. The S/Force 11 has a top end that I was unable to achieve on test day even though I was moving right along. Endowed with the Edge Amplifier technology found in other S/Max and S/Bold skis, the 11 provides the experienced skier with tenacious edge hold at high edge angles and speeds that should satisfy the most demanding speed freak.

Insider tip: Do not stop paying attention while on this ski. And don't get your pass pulled.​
