Nice Summary, Thanks. Now I need some help deciding the right pivot for me. I'm 6'2" 190 and 55yo. Just getting back into skiing this past year, rented. I was expert level when younger, but don't know if I'll get back to that given my age and limited access to the slopes (2 maybe 3 weekends a year). I've bought new Rustler 9's and looking for binders now. No boots yet, hoping to like the fit of the new Salomon Shift Pro GW boot (prolly size 28). I think I've read that the Pivot 15/18 has a much more solid feel. My din is gonna be around 7 so I don't need the higher din. Money is not issue, $60-$100 difference won't break me. I'm concerned about durability and feel. Appreciate some input guys. Thanx.

I forgot to include my other concern about added weight, but I think your succinct response answered that anyways. Thanks Philpug!!!

@Philpug Does the “GW” after most bindings not indicate GripWalk compatability? Thought the 15 and 18 were GripWalk (Because they had “GW” after the names).

The GW does indicate Gripwalk. If you switch to the WTR AFD, that is not Gripwalk.

Does the Pivot 15 have the same low range of adjustability as the 12 and 14?

As far as adjustment for different BSL? Yes, that is inherent in the Pivot heel design.

I have maybe 8 pair or 12GW, 14GW, 18 and before, never had any breakage, etc over 40 years no knee or ankle injuries while they were on my feet. Weight 205# 6' I ski 187cm or 190cm skis. Same settings 7 or 8. No touring experience.

You sound like a Look loyalist, good on ya. Only breakage I have experienced with Look is the old RS bindings of the early 80's and that was due to the sub par plastics that were being used back then...but that issue was across the board with almost every binding manufacturer, a problem that persisted into the 90's.

So nice to see the Pivot 15 option after the decade of lessor options.
Less excited to see that they are 'GW' compliant though...

Why? There is no cost in performance, it is not a moving or mechanical AFD. If you are that concerned on not being GW complaint, the toe is backwards compatible with the older DIN AFD's.

Are the 'older DIN AFD's' readily available for a fair price? I can't imagine them being stocked by many dealers.(much like brake width replacement turntables)

They should be available. I had some extra ones but ended up using them for customers with had AFD's IIRC retail should be about $20/pair. Here are pictures of the two AFD's....

From the lower picture it LOOKs like the GW AFD raises up the toe quite a bit. That a lot of gas pedal effect.
Binding delta is all over the place these days.

Aside from weight, reliability (real or perceived), and coolness factor, is there any noticable difference between Pivot plastic (12, 14) and metal (15, 18) toes? How about quality of release, perhaps due to retractable wings vs solid rotating toe piece?

Also, any comments on multi-directional or vertical release? I've heard claims that the metal toes don't have vertical release, yet some indicate they do. A cutout on the 15/18 shows a wedge milled off the vertical shaft, suggesting the toe piece can rotate forward. I've tried dialling down my 12s to test a vertical toe release -- it takes a lot of force even at DIN 4.
