We drove by on I-10 yesterday (Aug 1st) around 10:30a and a large portion of the hillside north of Beaumont was smoking. We could still see the huge smoke plume when we got home. :(

The Apple fire blew up today in Southern California. This is a daily time lapse video from the top of Bear Mountain by our local weather guy. About 2 mins, scary. http://socalmountains.com/timelapse/sang.mp4
This is a YouTube video of the Apple fire blowup August 1st, original link broken. Yesterday another fire started to the west of the now 95% contained Apple.

I'm trying realy hard to not complain about the smoke that's had us socked in because we're not IN the fire, but its getting tiresome to not be able to be active in all the bad air quality. :(

We are in a strange weather/smoke pattern here, high pressure taking smoke to the coast, then being pushed North. Record high temperature of 87° in BIg Bear yesterday, just 40 miles away in Palm Springs it was 122°. Smoke pics today.

California's atrocious year for wildfires just became the worst in state history as far as the amount of land scorched. And it's only September.
More than 2,094,955 acres have burned across the state this year.
