In the same boat ,,, what did you decide?

Not sure yet - it may be a game-time decision in the morning. I run pretty solid all-weather tires (that all the guys in at the shop kept calling winter tires) so my concern is less travel and more whether any lifts will be spinning tomorrow.

Yeah - may come down to the last minute. At dark 30 the pass could be less than ideal so I'm weighing the road conditions even though I have a heavy 4WD and lifts.

Indeed. Visibility is my biggest concern, followed by whether it will be worthwhile once I arrive.

On the other hand, CalTrans seems to have been closing roads completely this winter more than previously, or running escorts, so driving may not be super treacherous, or I'll have my answer as to whether to drive up when I wake. It's light by 6am. No way I'm getting to the pass earlier than that. Ever.

@AaronFM will be in town this week. Since Alpine is closing tomorrow and he hasn't skied there, we will be heading there. Squaw on Monday. Then, depending on weather Mammoth Tues or Wednesday.

Alpine in the morning and Squaw in the afternoon today. @oldfashoned and I met @marjoram_sage for a few runs at Alpine too.

Seconding @4ster 's condition report. Alpine in the morning was firm on the groomers and equally set off piste. It all looked good, but skis were not sinking in. Wolverine Bowl and D8 were okay. Best was the upper half of The Face. After that it got sticky and solid again. Pete's was a chore to come down.

Switched to Squaw at noon. Much better. Magoo's was decent. Hogsback was great. Visibility/flat lighting was an issue at both AM/SV. Get the low light goggles!

Conditions look much better in the photos :roflmao:

It's official! With the help of these late-season gifts from Mother Nature, KT-22 will stay open through Monday,
May 27, weather and conditions permitting. #SpringSkiingCapital ]

Interesting, as I rode up KT-22 on Friday with a ski patroller who knew nothing about this extension.
He left voluntarily 2 weeks ago for a planned vacation. (Squaw laid off the KT patrollers at that time)
Living in Tahoe City it was easy for him to return.

Now that KT-22 lives again for a second week, Yeah ! I bet he keeps working.

The mothership lives on ! :golfclap: (
sorry for funky look. I'm not on Twitter)

The groomers at Alpine got better as the day went on. The more skiers that went over them the more broken up they got, and the temp went up also.
I did make it off piste for a few runs. Lower part of Beaver Bowl above the 3 Sisters there was a decent amount of untracked. Smooth rollers which skied like felt or tight carpet, only sinking in about an inch. Good fun until I lost sight of the horizon! First time skiing induced vertigo.
Squaw skied much better today, if only because more skiers. That sound kind of funny, skied out for the better:eek:
Speaking of the viz I used my Oakley prizm rose lens and the worked really well today.

Somewhere above the 3 Sisters

I'm leaning towards Monday, mostly because I think vis will be better, and I'm gambling on not everything opening tomorrow. But, even if everything opens tomorrow, it will stay cold until Monday and still be fun.

Squaw/Alpine reporting 5" overnight. Alpine has Roundhouse spinning (Summit on wind hold).

But I'm likely skipping today. Taking a break and will be back for sun & corn :D

I'm seeing an inch even here at Incline Village too (7000' elevation).

@textrovert , how do you embed tweets? I (non-coder) have been trying for 5 minutes to figure out how to embed CHP-Truckee's FB post and just gave up. :)

Anyway, the post is a photo of somewhere on 80, and looks like pea soup. And winds just kicked up in Sac. So I'm owning my decision.... (talking myself into it, clearly....)

No trick :) I just drop the link right in. It does not look like that till you post. Once the post shows up, it has that embedded format.
Same for instagram... although I have seen it not work on rare occasions. So maybe the particular tweet you tried posting was similar?

I've always wondered that also. I just take a screenshot then move the edges in and post as a photo

Glad I didn't rush over early for the lineup as upper mountain isn't opening till 10. Thinking I'll hold out till tomorrow. Maybe get lucky and sibo/granite won't spin

Yep. That's my gamble, too. But I would settle for being able to see. :)

Here's the post (now I'm just testing to see how things look):

Oh, interesting -- the quasi code for it is bracket MEDIA=facebook bracket post number.... (this is what happens when non-coders try to talk code). So this platform recognizes FB.

ETA: Oh well. The lifts all look open now....
